Etching on laid paper; plate mark: 222 x 143 mm, total: 294 x 180 mm; a smudge on the external bottom margin, some foldings and browning on the margins, otherwise very nice impression. Le Blanc 38-137.

Ganymede, nude, leaning on Jupiter who, in the guise of an eagle, is perched on a rock on the left; set in a landscape; after a marble statue from the Della Valle collection. It became part of the Medici and exposed in the garden of the Medici Villa in Rome until it was transferred to Florence in 1780. Still today, the group is at the Uffizi.

Inscribed in pencil at bottom: "Prometheus".

Signed and numbered on the ground: "FP B 50", FP monogrammed and the B stands for "Bergognone".

From 'Segmenta Nobiliarum Signorum et Statuarum', a series of 101 etched plates (frontispiece and 100 illustrations) representing statues from Rome, first published in Rome in 1638, and reprinted five times before the end of the seventeenth century.

On verso, on the bottom right corner collector's mark: "P" in black (stencilled?). Date of publishing 1638.
